Once again another Tahoe Conference has come and gone. This year the location was moved from South Shore to Incline Village. What a spectacular setting the Hyatt Regency provided. Nestled right on the beach in the northeastern corner of the lake, it has to be one of the most beautiful spots in the world. It just does not get any better than this. Prior to the meeting there was some consternation about moving the meeting to a remote lo-cation on the north shore. However, once you arrived the sheer beauty of the setting more than mitigated any negative feelings about the move.
This year’s speakers were excellent, all recognized lecturers in their respective fields. Friday night’s barbecue on the beach was spectacular, with great food and drink while the sun was setting over the lake. The only negative that I can think of was the view from the conference room. The constant parade of people in swim suits and sleek boats on the lake made concentration on the speakers a bit more challenging, but what a problem to have!
It is difficult to image that this conference was started not that many years ago at the Best Western in South Lake Tahoe. We all met in a small room, sitting around a single table. The food for the barbecue was brought up from Sacramento. The attendees cooked and cleaned up. When you look back at that humble beginning to this year’s meeting you certainly see what vision and insight can accomplish. We had world class speakers with attendees from many parts of the country. Sacramento Valley Optometric Society has developed a summer meeting that rivals the best of the best.
Thanks to the board, and the meeting chairs for putting together this program. And a big thank you to the vendors and especially VSP for their generous sponsorship and support. Without the generous donations and hard work of the conference chairs we would all have 15 hours less of CE and spent the weekend sweating down in the valley. Great job…well done…..mark next year on your calendars, this is one meeting you will not want to miss.
